He’s the guy no one likes…

Despite winning two national championships, JR “Ace” Anderson was sent packing from his old school after losing the trust of his coach. At Southern U, he has a second chance to prove that his college legacy isn’t endless debauchery and selfishness. But his reputation precedes him, and his teammates offer a chilly welcome in the locker room. The one person who is willing to accept him is the very woman he should stay away from—his new coach’s daughter.

She’s the girl everyone loves…

Bryant Johnson’s only goal in life is to make others happy, even at her own expense. One look at her father’s new star quarterback, and she knows that Ace is her next project. With a reputation for being a “jerk whisperer”, Bryant has spent her last three years at college reforming sorry behavior and turning bad boys into the best boyfriends ever. In Ace, though, she’s met with surly resistance and a sizzling attraction she doesn’t expect. Fixing this wounded warrior will be her biggest challenge yet. Not falling for him will be even harder.

Between her big heart and his damaged one, a battle is ensuing. In this game of love, every defense will crumble.

The books in Jen Frederick’s Gridiron series, just keep getting better and better! I thought I loved Lucy and Matty in Jockblocked, but Bryant and Ace completely blew me away in Downed. I absolutely fell in love with these two characters from start to finish.

Bryant Johnson, is a southern belle with a big heart who has made projects of turning jerks into gentlemen and keeping people happy especially after older sister Ginny passed away. Her newest project his Ace Anderson, the new bad-boy quarterback. From the moment they meet, Ace is already different than any other guy she’s set her sights on to fix. While for Ace, well…he’s never met anyone like Bryant before and she’s about to turn his world around.

The chemistry between these two was perfect and I like how they each try to help the other overcome or realize their individual issues in the novel by being supportive, a partner, instead of just handling it for them. Not only that, but I also love how Jen Frederick incorporates the team relationships and the energy and excitement for the sport. The supporting characters, like Ty, Travarius, Coach Johnson and so on-are all uniquely written. Even Bryant’s mom, who’s appearances are aptly placed, add a lot to the book’s pace and emotion as well. I also enjoyed the humor and dialogue. There is a scene with Ace and some of his team interrupting the Coach’s dinner that was a lot of fun. You must read to find out more.

Overall, Downed by Jen Frederick was a perfect sports romance novel and I was so sad when I realized I was nearing the end of the book because I wasn’t ready for it to end. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend. Can’t wait to read more!
