I voluntarily reviewed an advance review copy of this book I received for free in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Aria Carmichael and Nate Dixon have the perfect friendship—completely ignoring the fact that they’ve been in love with each other for the better part of twelve years.
When a night filled with too many drinks lowers their inhibitions, they both question if they could take their relationship to a new level. But a job opportunity threatens to put more than just physical distance between them. Will their romance end before it’s even truly begun?
It Was Always You by Ashelyn Drake is one of those books you read and expect to become a Hallmark Movie someday. Aria Carmichael and Nate Dixon have been best friends for 12 years. They went to school together and now work at a small newspaper together. They are two peas in a pod, where you find one the other will always be there. But that’s all they have ever been, friends, at least on the outside. Secretly they both have the hots for each other, and have for a while, but neither wants to risk their friendship.
I liked how connected the characters are, other than that they are not officially “dating” they are essentially a couple, everyone sees it but them. Ms. Drake does a good job of taking their 12 year friendship and adding to it, blending outside drama to prod them along. At times you just want to scream “say something already” but you get just enough hints that it’s going to happen to keep you going. Once they finally get together it’s that much sweeter, just have to have patience and enjoy the fun getting there.
Overall, I enjoyed It Was Always You by Ashelyn Drake for the descriptive setting, which felt very comfortable, and the characters who fit the book so well and are easy to identify with. I happily recommend this novel.
